Property Use Guidelines

General Policy

The buildings and grounds of Westport Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends are maintained primarily for the use of the Westport Meeting, and are available for use by other Quaker organizations and committees affiliated with The Religious Society of Friends. Guidelines and suggested fees for use are included below.

The Meeting house is typically available for worship, retreats, weddings, funerals, memorial services and other gatherings for spiritual services.

In addition to use by Quaker organizations, the Macomber Friends Community House is available for use by civic and non-profit programs and organizations from the surrounding area. Events include, for example, exercise groups, environmental and human rights organizations, youth organizations such as Scouts, public forums and meetings, educational groups, etc. In September of 2016 monthly meeting for business discontinued renting the Community House to individuals for birthday parties, showers and private family gatherings.

  1. Hello,
My partner Mark and I are getting married in Westport in August 2023. I have been raised in the Quaker community – my dad is Quaker and I grew up in and am a member of a Quaker organization. It is really important to my partner and me that we integrate that part of our lives into our wedding day. And, being from southeast Mass, Westport is very special to us.
We are wondering if we could hold just our wedding ceremony in the Meeting House. We would happily contribute to compensate for using the property, and would be respectful of the grounds and any rules associated with using the space. We would add nominal decoration, if any, to the space. Our tentative date for our wedding is Saturday, August 12, 2023.
Please let me know if this is something that may be arranged. We are deeply grateful for your consideration.

    • Hello Nina,
First, congratulations on your planned wedding! I am happy for you both. The short answer here to your note is yes, this is possible to make happen and making the meetinghouse available is something we do from time to time for folks in the community. There is a fee for use of the meetinghouse, which we feel is modest.

Because I am in the process of planning for a member’s memorial service in the meetinghouse this Saturday, I ask if we can wait for a day next week to talk more, plan a visit, and go over details. Hopefully that’s okay with you.

I’ll give you my cell for connecting next week, which is 508-742-8709. Let’s also move this communication over to email, and I can be reached via email at kevinthequaker@gmail.com.
