How we provide child care during meeting for worship
We strive to create an atmosphere that is inclusive of individuals, families, and welcoming to children. We appreciate their presence and offerings, with the understanding that stillness is a learned skill. Childcare is available for ages twelve and under. The volunteers that provide childcare have had background checks and represent Westport Meeting’s commitment to providing a safe and nurturing experience for young people.
At the start of Meeting for Worship a volunteer will introduce themselves to you and your child and offer childcare during worship, should you so choose. At 10:20, the volunteer will stand and walk to the foyer of the Meeting House to meet the children. The children will then leave with their childcare volunteer to go to the Community House where the childcare space is located. You are welcome to join them.
About our volunteers
I’m Pamela Terrien. I’ve been attending Westport Monthly Meeting regularly since January of 2016 and have been a member since June of 2018. I most enjoy my roles as mother and grandmother to two wonderful sons and a grandson and granddaughter. I look forward to getting to know the children and families that make their way into our community, and sharing my gifts as well as learning yours.
I am Gretchen Baker-Smith. I have been a member of Westport Meeting since 1989. My husband and I have raised our three children, now adults, as part of the Westport Meeting community. I am the Yearly Meeting Children and Middle-School Youth Coordinator. In this role, I provide ministry and spiritual nurturing to young people and support families. I delight in watching children grow in safe and loving communities.
