The Peace and Social Justice Committee at Westport Monthly Meeting invites you to participate in the viewing of a film, The Hate U Give.
We will be gathering Sunday April 7, 2019 from 12-2 pm in Potter House section of the Macomber Friends Community House.
A synopsis of the film:
Starr Carter is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white prep school she attends.The uneasy balance between these two worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right. (Twentieth Century Fox, 2018) Based on the book by the same name by Angie Thomas, 2017.
