Westport Meeting Newsletter, Nov 25 2022

Westport Meeting News:

Monthly Meeting for Business was held last week, and highlights include:

Friends decided that we will return to our traditional practice (before Covid) of observing Advent Sunday with a potluck of soups and other foods brought from homes. Weather permitting, we will continue to offer the much enjoyed fire pit provided by Buddy and Gretchen, with singing around the fire. In the event of inclement weather singing will be held indoors within the Community House. Friends who may feel more comfortable wearing masks at future Westport Meeting events are encouraged to continue doing so.

Ministry and Counsel Committee at its meeting on Nov 21 after a period of discussion, was clear to recommend to the next Monthly Meeting for Business on Dec 18, that our Meeting’s traditional Christmas Eve Service was ready to also return to sharing vocal hymns, Christmas carols, and spoken readings in our meetinghouse, beginning at 7pm on Christmas Eve on December 24, followed by offerings of finger food sweets and homemade Christmas punch! Again, Friends who feel more comfortable wearing masks are warmly encouraged to do so.

Like other years when Christmas day falls on a Sunday, M&C will also recommend to business meeting that the meetinghouse will remain open for regular worship at 10am on Sunday, but no hospitality will follow worship. Zoom worship will be continue to be offered like every Sunday, but it will not be connected to the anticipated number of limited Friends present in the meetinghouse. (This is because we will not have anyone present that day able to run the Zoom electronics necessary in the meetinghouse. We apologize.)

Reminder: Monthly Meeting for Business will be held, via Zoom only, Sunday, Dec 18, at 8 AM. The Zoom link is in the Meeting’s weekly email.

Notice: While the Grange across from the Community House makes repairs to its faulty well, leaving the building without water, the Saturday evening AA meeting, which usually meets at the Grange each Saturday evening 6-8 PM, will  be holding their meetings in our Community House until the Grange water issue is fixed. (This is in addition to their usual Sunday night meetings in our Community House.

NOTICE: Please be advised that the Community House Hall will be closed for annual floor maintenance Dec 26-31. Friends will still have access to the Potter House and kitchen via rear doors, but not the front door that week. This is necessary to allow time for the floor refinishing to dry thoroughly.

Closing:

If someone comes to you asking for help,
do not say in refusal, “Trust in God. He will help.”
Rather, act as if there were no God,
and no one to help, except you.
